ORIBE x THANDIWE MURIU

For our Holiday 2024 Collection, we partnered with Kenyan artist, Thandiwe Muriu, to present a bold expression of beauty through bespoke textiles, hand-crafted upcycled accessories, contemporary photography, and hair styled by talented Oribe hair artists.  
Muriu’s artistic vision—deeply rooted in her African heritage—embodies the jubilant spirit of community and togetherness, with this year’s artwork encapsulating the timeless African proverb:

“When your sister does your hair, you do not need a mirror.”

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Muriu created two bespoke textile patterns for our collaboration that blend her artistic flair with iconic Oribe design elements. The “Strands of History” pattern featured on this gift set was inspired by the shape of the necks of our unique bottles, which Muriu deconstructed and laid straight to create a wavy pattern.

Muriu also worked with upcycled Oribe packaging from the archives to handcraft brilliant, one-of-a-kind eyewear, which pops from the patterns and echoes the model’s ornately styled hair.
